I'm sorry, I was thinking 'Laura Linney sexy' and a fazed out there for a sec...what were you saying?

You know, Jessica Alba is pretty and all, but LL has something else. A functioning cortex maybe.

The Savages and (of course) No Country are both terrific. One thing about Laura Linney though, I think she needs to play sexy (which she is) and funny. She's very good in The Savages but its time she battle her "conflicted nearly middle aged woman unsure of something in a noble dramedy" typecasting. Remember her breakout Primal Fear? Something like that, only with a more screwball bent-listening Coen Brothers?

badland...maybe i stopped reading because the title seems so generic....and tired....

What do a German terrorist, a bank robber, a gay evangelist and a martial arts student all have in common? hmm they write a screenplay about the iraq war ???? ;)

i like the idea or whatever behind he was a quiet man

I actually read the entire review.

There's a character named Gavin in a screenplay I wrote the first draft of a loooong time ago. If I ever dust it off, I think I'd better change that name.

Ahahahahaha. I will help you pour vinegar into the hole left by the spoon.

I've never read a positive review that made me NOT want to see the movie before.

I suppose it's crass to criticize folks who get paid to do this type of thing. Oh well.

I read that Sasquatch review. My eyes are still bleeding from the Variety jibber jabber.

You ever start writing in that Variety-speak gibberish (auds, offshore returns, vidstore cognescenti), I will come down to LA and stab you with a rusty spoon. I care about you and it would be for your own good.

Despite my snarky response, I remain curious about Protagonist. The trailer looked pretty good anyway. As for Badland, it wasn't on my radar at all, but if it gets good reviews, I could see checking it out.

Wow, if not for those two at the top of your list I'd say we'd slipped through a worm hole back into August. This is a really weird, obscure series of films to be opening during the crowded, holiday-minded awards season.

I've actually heard some good things about Protagonist but after puppets and Eurypides, I admit I'm turned off. The rest of these have all gotten some really bad or indifferent reviews.

As for Badlands, there are so many competing Iraq War movies out now that seem to be covering the exact same territory that I can't tell them apart anymore. Stop Loss, Badlands, Lion for Lambs, Redacted, Elah...it makes my head hurt just thinking about it all. And other than Redacted, none of these seem to have made much of an impact critically or otherwise (and I'm completely ambivalent about Redacted...so whatever).
