Not the People’s Choice After All

In a happy little irony, the people chose and they didn’t choose The People’s Choice.

According to Variety, ratings for the CBS broadcast “crashed to historic lows Tuesday night” and the show came in 3rd place.

I realize this is TV news and not movie news, but it makes me feel warm inside.

Warning: if you click the Variety link, you will be submitted to such ridiculous words as “kudocast”.  You’ve been warned.

  1. Yet people still watch the MTV movie awards like it has some value greater than this? Did they already cancel the Blockbuster awards or must we suffer through the indignity of a movie rental chain kissing the industry’s ass as well?

  2. I forgot all about the Lackluster awards.

  3. kudocast? Uh-oh.

  4. I know. I hate Varietese.

  5. The unironic use of Variety lingo is one of my biggest problems with Jeff Wells.

The MTV awards still are successful because the awards themselves are only a part of the show, alongside the stars and production numbers and spectacle etc.

  6. He really fancies himself some kind of Watler Winchell or something, doesn’t he?

  7. Ironically enough, I was on the People’s Choice nominating committee a few years back when they had the Entertainment Weekly Front Row members submit nominations…but I don’t think my voice was heard.

Although that was the year “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” was nominated…so at least we brought a little class to the proceedings.

They haven’t let the Front Row members do the nominating again since.

  8. I know my voice was not heard because “Dogville” was not nominated…hahahaha.

  9. See what happens when you try to make these things interesting? It scares them.

    I love Eternal Sunshine.

  10. Eternal Sunshine only made, what, $30 million? So it couldn’t have been that good because not enough people saw it.

  11. I don’t recall any explosions or fart jokes in Eternal Sunshine…so clearly it sucked. God bless ‘merica.

  12. Lol joel!
Eternal Sunshine - now I feel happy.
The People’s Choice Awards make me cringe, especially this year’s awards.
