Brad Renfro has died of unknown causes. The actor who became famous as a child starring in the John Grisham thriller The Client was found unresponsive in his home on the morning of Tuesday the 15th. Paramedics were summoned, but the 25-year-old was later pronounced dead by the coroner.

Joel and others have given me a heads up on the odd selections the Academy has short listed for the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar. I’d feel a stronger sense of righteous indignation if A) I’d actually seen all of the eligible films and B) if AMPAS didn’t routinely make bad choices in this category.
