Yeah Pierre, I was over at Beat the Crowd too, they said I won a free DVD of my choice but I have heard nothing from them since. I do think not seeing all the nominees helps , I got the same this year as last year, next year, *whoa dream big* right? Predicting the Oscars is not nearly as fun as watching the films though, and that’s what I get to do now. Alls well.

Congrads, Nick, on your win. Didn't I also see your name in the winners column over at Beat the Crowd? Like you, my success rate at predicting the Oscars was better during previous years when I hadn't seen the nominated stuff. Goes to show that emotions really do cloud one's judgment. Cases in point, this year I refused to even consider Swinton because of disdain not only for the film but also how underwritten her role was. Next, I couldn't force myself to vote for the costumes from that godawful Golden Age. Finally, I was in denial about my personal best actress favorite, Marion Cotillard, and didn't want to jinx her chances even though I really love Julie Christie, who I figured would win by about one vote.

Still, though, my score of 16/24 is better than last year's.

By the way, Cotillard told Craig Ferguson on his show that her favorite group is Radiohead.

Congrats Nick, excellent work there. 17 out of 24 when one considers the bevy of upsets in the techical categories (ELIZABETH, GOLDEN COMPASS, BOURNE ULTIMATUM etc.) is quite good.
Wonderful piece there on ONCE Daniel!

lol, thanks everyone for the kind words, flattery rocks. Moreover, thanks Craig, for holding such a contest allowing me to flaunt my "prognosticating God"-likeness. Kidding. Congrats to everyone else on getting what they got right.

Good call on the Bourne wins Ally, I screwed up there, and completely ignored Miss Swinton. It was fun, as always.

Yeah I knew they were together but didn't know much about the circumstances. Little weird at how young she was when they first met but they seem to be mature about it. She was incredible under the spotlight last night.

Incidentally, I just got an email from the Landmark Theatres Film Club alerting me that I'm eligible for priority ticket purchasing to see the duo in concert here in May. Thanks, Mark Cuban!

Hah, Nick, you're amazing. You didn't even have the chance to see most of the Oscar nominated films and you still beat all the rest of us in the guessing department. You either have a very reliable crystal ball or one heck of a good Magic Eight Ball.

Congrats. Remind me not to include you in my Oscar pool next year ; ).

Don't know if anyone caught this in yesterday's NYT. I was too busy and only found it when I opened the paper today. Makes me that much sweeter on our pair from Once:

I don't know if that's going to work. Look up "Life Imitating Film" if it doesn't.

Nick is a prognosticating God!

As for me, I'm happy to get some 16 correct like most everyone else. Particularly when my side-bets garner free meals from Craig and Alison respectively. It's like the Color of Money, the real profits are made in the backroom :-)

Congratulations, Nick!

I did okay in the top 8 - got 6/8. I missed Tilda Swinton and had too much hope that they would give Diving Bell something so I picked it for Adapted Screenplay. I'm not disappointed that it went to the Coens though. This was an amazingly strong category and I would have been happy with any of the five winning.

As for the tech categories: I sucked big time. Though I did get all 3 Bourne wins right. I figured most of the Academy knows nothing about editing, sound editing or sound mixing. So I went for loudest (it goes to 11) and lots of fast-moving shots that the lay person could understand.
