Ms. Van Driel Goes to Washington

America's Newspaper

Here’s a quick shout out to everyone’s favorite Netherlander, Hedwig, who recently got a mention in the friggin’ Culture Brief section of The Washington Friggin’ Times for her excellent contribution to Paul Clark’s Muriel Awards.

Way to go Hedwig, Paul and Muriel!

Also if anyone who lives in the D.C. area can lay their hands on the paper in question, I believe it’s from March 5, drop me a line: craig@livingincinema.com.

  1. Wow. Congratulations! Way to go, Hedwig!

It’ll doubtless sound like bandwagon-jumping but I loved the prose of Hedwig’s in commending Blanchett’s portrayal of the “Jude” Dylan.

  2. Wow. I mean….wow. Thanks for pointing this out, Craig! (& Paul, I’m noticing now, just saw this first).

I was quoted in the F***ing Washing Times. I mean, I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of saying that. Ok, I will in an hour or so, but first I’m gonna say it very, very often ;-)

Congrats to Paul, too :-) No better way to promote the Muriels, and make them even bigger next year.

Incidentally, any idea how I might get my hands on a copy?

  3. Oh my god, how awesome Hedwig!

Having not seen I’m Not There, but only having seen Cate Blanchett’s scenes, I think you said everything I could of and then some, with way better vocabulary! Great write up, well done!

*Can I jump on the Bandwagon too? You Were Quoted in The Washington Times. Wow*

  4. Outstanding insights into Blanchett’s performance and a rousing congrats to Hedwig for being published in The Washington Times. Now THAT is classy!

  5. Wow, excellent job Hedwig, on the writing and the accomplishment. I liked your comments quite a bit and it appears I (and many others) were not alone.

  6. I find it hilarious that Muriel has infiltrated President Bush’s “favorite section of the newspaper.” Great work, Hedwig!

  7. Totally deserving attention to a very fine piece of writing, Hedwig.

  8. I added an adendum to the post, but I’ll repeat it here. If anyone, particular people in or near DC can get their hands on the paper for Hedwig, let me know. I think it’s the March 5 edition.

  9. That’s awesome! Congratulations, Hedwig! Excellent write-up.

And it’s nice to see the Muriel Awards getting additonal attention also. :-)

  10. Craig and Hedwig:

I’ve told Paul that getting copies of the paper is cake for me — there’s always stuff lying around the newsroom. I now hold in my hand … three A sections that I will send off to him in Columbus. He should have them by the middle of next week.

  11. Thanks Victor, you sir are the man.

  12. Thank you Victor!
