Tribeca Slims Down

TFFIn the face of mounting criticism for becoming too large and expensive in recent years, the Tribeca Film Festival announced a trimmed down line-up today for it’s 7th annual running and promised lower prices and a more streamlined organization.

Including the previously announced opener, Baby Mama, there are 122 feature films of which 55 are world premieres, 10 are international premieres, 26 are North American premieres and 8 are U.S. premieres. IndieWIRE has a partical list of films including those in the World Narrative Feature competition, the World Documentary Feature competition and the Encounters category.

  1. What a waste of the talent of Greg Kennear and Sigourney Weaver in Baby Mama.

    The Aquarium sounds really interesting.

  2. Gosh, 122 feature films showing at Tribeca this year? And that’s slimming down? I must confess, my knowledge of Tribeca is pretty shaky. How many films do they usually screen?

Seems like the only ones that get the press are the big, mostly bad, soon-to-be-widely-released Hollywood movies.

  3. Last year there were supposedly 159.

  4. I live maybe 30 minutes from the site of this festival, yet I’ve never attended it even once. With the lower prices and “streamlined organization” it may well be worth an appearance or two.
I would venture to say that Alison has been there.

    Only on the red carpet.

  6. :-)

    But of course, sartre.

  7. I’ve always been intrigued by Tribeca, as it seems like a hipper festival that just sprung itself up. I know it’s not a top-tier fest and the prices are astronomical, but what’s the scene like?

  8. someone tell nic that i see his fave Frank Langella has a film under the encounters section called well the caller. :)

and i’m really liking the sound of the stuff under the world narrative section. uh maybe hipsters can get something right. :)

  9. Thanks for that info, Craig.

Sounds like it could very well be worth the trip this year, Sam.
