Regal Turns Red with Restricted Trailers
Regal Entertainment Group, the largest theater chain in the United States has decided to begin allowing so-called restricted trailers to run before films in its multiplexes and it’s expected that the other large chains will follow.
The so called “red-band” trailers contain content inappropriate for minors and only appear before R-rated and NC-17-rated films. Frequency of restricted trailer use declined in 2000 when the Federal Trade Commission expressed concern about marketing violent entertainment to children.
It’s a little embarrassing this is even a news item. Good to know the FTC’s priorities are in order though, right? Who cares about limiting the power of multi-media conglomerates, think about the children!!!

I love that last line — echoes of Helen Lovejoy right there.
Well good for them. Now maybe Hollywood can make more R-rated movies to go with those trailers.
Can I qualify that wish by adding “good” before “R-rated”? I don’t want any more crap like Doomsday.
