‘Secret Sunshine’ Wins 3 Asian Film Awards

Asian Film AwardsNamed the Best Undistributed Film of 2007 in the IndieWIRE Critics’ Poll last year, earning a Best Actress award at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival for Jeon Do-Yeon, and named by me as one of the best films I saw at AFI, South Korea’s official submission for the best foreign language Oscar, Secret Sunshine (Milyang), has now been honored at the Hong Kong International Film Festival Society’s 2nd Annual Asian Film Awards.

Overall, Secret Sunshine won three top awards including Best Film, Best Director Lee Chang-Dong and Best Actress Jeon Do-Yeon. Meanwhile, Tony Leung won Best Actor for his performance in Ang Lee’s Lust, Caution. See the complete list of winners here.

Secret Sunshine played for a week in New York and LA in December and is available on a limited edition Region 3 DVD, but I can’t find any information about a regular theatrical run or a Region 1 DVD release. If you know anything, pass it on.

  1. At least Tang Wei was nominated, even if she didn’t win. I’m very happy for the Best Actor award going to Tony Leung. A truly underrated actor in this country.

  2. Yeah I was glad to see Tony Leung up there. I’d be sad about Tang Wei if Jeon Do-Yeon wasn’t also terrific.

Sucks how little love overall Lust, Caution got worldwide.
