Hazel Court, Actress: 1926 - 2008

Hazel CourtHorror queen Hazel Court has died of a heart attack at age 82.

Trained at the London Academy of Dramatic Art, the redhead got her start in films with a one line part in Ealing’s Champagne Charlie in 1944. However, beginning with Hammer Films’ The Curse of Frankenstein in 1957, Court made a name for herself as the Scream Queen, starring in a string of horror films for Hammer and for Roger Corman.

In 1963 she worked alongside Vincent Price, Peter Lorre and Boris Karloff (The Triumvirate of Terror!) in Corman’s satirical horror film The Raven. She starred with Price again in Corman’s Masque of the Red Death in 1964 and then retired from film to raise a family.

  1. Aw, another one. I remember her particularly in Masque of the Red Death.

    RIP.

  2. RIP, Hazel. I’m sure I’ve seen at least a couple of her movies from KSTW in Tacoma’s Weekend Horror matinees. Grew up on all the old horror and sci-fi from the 40’s-60’s.

  3. Wow, another one indeed. A dazzling and intelligent presence in whatever she appeared in, like Alison I most vividly remember her in Corman’s Masque of the Red Death.

    RIP.
