Criterion is feeling Blu

Joel passed along some great news for all you early-adopting AV nerds who actually like movies (no, I’m not talking about the ones who bought the Superbit version of Bad Boys II back in the day). According to their newsletter, The Criterion Collection (every movie lover’s friend) has finally announced they’re going to start rolling out their catalogue in Blu-ray in October. Prices will match the standard-def versions.
In the pipeline so far:
- The Third Man
- Bottle Rocket
- Chungking Express
- The Man Who Fell to Earth
- The Last Emperor
- El Norte
- The 400 Blows
- Gimme Shelter
- The Complete Monterey Pop
- Contempt
- Walkabout
- For All Mankind
- The Wages of Fear
Commence soiling your Spider-Man underoos.

I got this too, and posted the news on Screengrab. The main difference between our pieces is that my title is a little less work-safe than yours. Otherwise, pretty much the same thing.
hahaha…I was trying to figure out how you could go NSFW with this before reading what you wrote. I came up with “Criterion Sooths Movie Nerds’ Blu-balls”
I like yours…and it was more thorough.
Whoa, Chungking Express, El Norte, Bottle Rocket, and the return of The Man Who Fell to Earth? Those are big news all by themselves.
A point made infinitely more clear in Paul’s post.
“The 400 Blows” Sweet. My favorite film of all time gets some serious blu-ray lovin’.
Great. The 3rd triple-dip Criterion edition’s of The 400 Blows and The Third Man I’ve bought. Should I wait for The Third Man 3D?
What’s this Blu-Ray Group?
The Third Man on Blu-Ray?
I knew there was a reason to keep living.
I hear you Ryan, but I’m just happy to finally have a decent SE of Bottle Rocket and live safe in the knowledge that the Criterion collection is embracing the new paradigm.
They don’t triple-dip with nearly the audacity of the studios, so I forgive them these small details.
Dorothy - you took the words right out of my mouth, “The 400 Blows” on Blu-Ray is, for me, reason enough to make the switch from standard DVD.
As Paul said in another thread, these are good times to be a movie lover.
