Sony Classics laps up Egoyan’s ‘Adoration’

Two weeks before Atom Egoyan’s latest film is scheduled to premiere at Cannes, Sony Pictures Classics has snagged it for domestic and select international distribution.
Adoration, starring Rachel Blanchard and Scott Speedman, is Canadian filmmaker Egoyan’s 11th feature and his 7th collaboration with producer Robert Lantos. The drama tells the story of a teenager who assumes a false Internet identity claiming to be the son of two historic figures.
Variety has the film pegged for a 4th quarter platform release.

As I said here once before, I have a friend very close to the production of this film who really thinks it’s Egoyan’s return to form. Whenever I talk with him about movies he brings it up enthusiastically. He’s usually not easily impressed by movies he’s associated with. I’m glad Egoyan seems to have possibly rebounded after a period of less than altogether satisfying product.
The story certainly sounds like it could be very interesting.
