Bob Marley: Not a Martin Scorsese Picture
Due to ’scheduling conflicts’ (like maybe he’s just signed on to too many movies), Martin Scorsese is out as director of the upcoming Bob Marley documentary and Jonathan Demme is in.
Demme is no stranger to non-fiction music films, having made the classic Talking Heads concert film Stop Making Sense and, more recently, Neil Young: Heart of Gold. The Roger Corman prodigy perhaps best known for The Silence of the Lambs is currently working on another Neil Young concert film called Neil Young Trunk Show.
Martin Scorsese is at work on Shutter Island with Leonardo DiCaprio.

This can’t go wrong. Can it?
“I don’t wanna waa-ait in vain” for this movie…
I love Scorsese and all, but I think Demme will be a good choice.
I agree, besides, I’d rather have more Martin Scorsese fiction features anyway, if I had to pick and choose (still hoping for that Jesuit missionary film somewhere down the road)
Love Scorsese. But, yeah, they should’ve started with Demme. Perfect pairing. Now let’s see if Demme can make a really good movie again.
Nothing against Scorsese and I’m sure what he would’ve come up with would’ve been great, but he never quite felt like the right fit for this. He’s edgier. More nervous energy. Doesn’t jibe with Marley’s music as much. On the surface anyway.
