Cannes 2008 – Che Sera Sera
By Craig Kennedy - May 21st, 2008; 3:30 pm
Jeff Wells appears to have gotten the Lawrence of Latin America he was hoping for. Here he is on Soderbergh’s Che and Guerilla. I didn’t read what he said, but the headlines sum it up.
[Updated 3:40pm PST] Variety’s Anne Thompson…not so much.
[4:20pm PST] Austin360′s Charles Ealy describes the scene more than the movies themselves.
[5:00pm PST] Variety’s Todd McCarthy with a full review.
[5:30pm PST] Cinematical’s Kim Voynar with an immediate reaction. Rocchi will be doing the full review.
[6:30pm PST] Cinematical’s James Rocchi with a full review.
[11:30pm PST] Glenn Kenny reports for IndieWIRE.
[8:00am PST 5/22] Screen Daily’s Allan Hunter.
[3:00pm PST 5/22] Salon’s Andrew O’Hehir.

Lawrence Of South America.
I am ever SO susceptible to a man that can make me laugh. Ha.
Wells has been so amped up for these two films that I have to wonder a little about his reaction(s).
Meanwhile, trying to read a few bits and pieces of Armond White’s equally enthusiastic and baffling review of Crystal Skull has given me a headache.
At least Wells can emote from time to time and occasionally make his movie love palpable.
I wish I could take credit for it Miranda, alas it’s a Jeff Wells original.
Well actually I see now he originally said “Lawrence of Latin America” and I’ve now corrected myself.
Wells isn’t a reliable indicator for me at all.. Miami Vice anyone?…but as I said before I do prefer it when he’s juiced for a movie.
on the other hand a) as Nick has pointed out, never trust a Cannes response and b) The film isn’t technically even finished.
