Millennium Takes Stab at ‘Musketeers’
Positioning themselves firmly as the home of tired retreads, Millennium Films is adding The Three Musketeers to its stable of shopworn properties that now include Conan the Barbarian, Red Sonja, Hercules, Buck Rogers and Rambo.
The story will reportedly tell how the original three, Athos, Porthos and Aramis, first teamed up.
The best part for Millenium? Alexandre Dumas’ novel is in the public domain so it won’t cost them a thing and there are no pesky rights holders standing around making sure they don’t screw it up.
Regarding the branded properties his company is so focused on snapping up, Millennium’s Joe Gatta said “You can either build one from scratch or find the ones that are available and of interest to the audience.”
There’s a third way, Joe. Leave crappy franchises to the big boys and make movies that matter instead.
Millennium Films: It’s all for suck and suck for all.

Ah, but what will you say when David Fincher is attached to direct with Joseph Gordon Levitt, Shia LaBeouf and Daniel Radcliffe playing The Three Musketeers?
Never mind. Millennium Films is both dumb and cheap, which means it’ll be hack work all the way in all areas. Oh well.
Do they collect their spare change until they’ve saved up enough to make another movie? That list you ticked off there has some serious dust piled up on it.
Oh no, wait, a quick trip to their web site reveals they are making a lot of movies these days. Mostly crap.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH. I’m sorry but that will never not be funny.
And yeah, the 2nd thing Alexander said. They have no interest in name talent, they’re all about Brands on a Budget.
This is just sad. The Three Musketeers is a great book that has yet to have been given a definitive big screen treatment. Sure, the Lester films are pretty good but too often just embrace outright silliness. Another Musketeers film is theoretically not an obviously unnecessary project in the way that another Conan film oviously is. There is still a great film looking to be made from this story, yet this will obviously not be the case, which is a shame since I love that book.
Make no mistake, I’m not against the idea of a Three Musketeers movie, but Millenium’s attitude seems all wrong. They’re bargain hunters, not quality makers.
And I do bristle at every old idea getting recycled, no matter how good the original idea was.
