HR on QT and IB

The Hollywood Reporter’s Gregg Kilday fleshed out the ongoing colonoscopy of Quentin Tarantino’s Inglorious Bastards a little bit last night. He says that Tarantino is planning for an accelerated European shoot to begin in October and to be finished in time for the Cannes Film Festival.

He also adds that The Weinstein Co. will co-finance, distribute in the US plus oversee production and worldwide marketing. They’re looking for a major studio to take international distribution in exchange for co-financing.

He describes the alleged Brad Pitt talks as the actor’s name having “surfaced.”

At what point do things stop being rumory and instead become facty?

  1. “At what point do things stop being rumory and instead become facty?”

When we’re no longer talking about a Tarantino project in pre-production.

  2. Well, I think it’s safe to say that unless financing falls through, IB really is Tarantino’s next project. Of course if financing falls through, he’s got bigger problems than what movie he should make next.

The rest of it, especially the Brad Pitt part, I think is just Weinstein induced hype to get the major studio’s mouths watering a little bit so someone will cough up some cash.

  3. Pitt will probably have a Kirk Douglas-in-Is-Paris-Burning?-type cameo, ahaha…

So far things have fit logically. Robert Rodriguez said somewhere that Tarantino was aiming for an early fall beginning to shoot; Tarantino said it’d be ready for Cannes ‘09; the script is being shopped around; now we hear it’ll start shooting in October for a rapid-fire production to be shown at Cannes.

Of course, the biggest twist of this real-life story will be when Tarantino actually makes the film. Many had given up on Indiana Jones IV for years, but the Lucas Empire operates a bit differently from the Tarantino Pussy Wagon.

  4. Inglorious Bastards, which is supposed to be a lengthy two-part WWII epic, is to begin production in Oct. and premiere at Cannes in May? Tarantino isn’t Spielberg or Nolan. He never works that quickly. I wonder if Hollywood Reporter made that up….,ot if that’s really the delusion the Weinstein’s are working under. It took QT 8 weeks to film the Blue Leaves sequence alone for Kill Bill. IB is a period piece with double the scope. I’ll be shocked if this is true.

That said, I’m excited IB is his next film. Sounds good.

  5. I didn’t think Nolan worked all that quickly, either, though. Didn’t Batman Begins and The Dark Knight both have very long shooting schedules (approximately around half a year in each case?), or am I wrong?

I’m hoping Inglorious Bastards does not remain a two-parter; even if it’s a 200-minute feature, I think it would probably go down better as a single film.

  6. heh, yeah, the Batman films took a while, I was referring to The Prestige, which went into production in January 06 and came out in theaters in October of that year.

  7. Isn’t there still a potential actor’s strike holding up everything in Hollywood or did I miss something? What’s going with that? Seems like a difficult time for anyone to be shopping a script in Hollywood right now, let alone planning a production schedule.

  8. The SAG contract officially expired on June 30 and studios have been reluctant to start new productions, but there hasn’t been a vote to strike. But yeah, it seems like things are in limbo.

  9. Productions are held up, but there’s no slowdown in script sales because those things take so long to develop and make their way through the Hollywood meatgrinder. Also, if there was a strike, the Weinsteins would probably negotiate a separate deal to allow production to commence, which is what they did during the WGA strike.

  10. Still, if QT shows up at Cannes with more than a promo reel of the film, I will wear a dress for one whole workday and introduce myself to strangers on the street as “Nancy”.

  11. I couldn’t give a damn about IB, but I think it would be most interesting to see a promo reel of you as Nancy, Craig….

  12. Ahahahahha…in one year after IB makes its star-studded premiere at Cannes, you may have your wish, my friend.

  13. Craig, isn’t that kind of an empty wager, considering you’re already pretty fond of sporting skirts, angora sweaters and mink stoles and going by the name Barbara on your off hours?

Of course I only know this because I faithfully stalked Barbara for a month before discovering her true identity, but still ….

  14. I bet you’d make one hell of a hot lookin lady, Craig. Any bloody day of the week.

    BUT…

My sweet baby, you never told me about the angora sweaters. You KNOW how fond I am of them.

Have you got any in emerald green or mauve that you could lend me?

Oh, DAMN. We probably don’t take the same size, do we?

  15. You two! Why I oughta…

  16. You KNOW I love you, Craig.

Just wait till Friday. You’ll be getting an earful then.

    Or something.

    Hee hee….

  17. oh that’s right…someone’s gonna be like 1000….

  18. No, you’re NOT.

You’re a very young man in the prime of life, Mr. hunky Jason Bateman lookalike.

I HAVE to pay you back for the Dean Martin serenade I got Christmas week. Fair is fair. I still have that, you know. I’m just debating on whether I should use Marilyn Monroe or…ME. Hah hah.

Either way, it’s gonna be a blast.

Will there be a big party at LiC? I will be gone most of that day. But I will NEVER neglect you, honey.

    Inquiring minds want to know….

  19. Nope. No party. I’m taking it easy this time around. Pro’ly go to a movie. Lol.

  20. You’re no fun, my little crabcake.

Just wait till I hit SoCal. The world’s gonna roll on a dime, let me tell you.

So, as long as you’re waiting in hot anticipation for my fabulous e-mail, that will be sufficient.

    For now….

  21. It will make my day/evening, I guarantee it.

And I’m tons of fun in the right circumstances.

  22. *raises eyebrow*

    I can only hope…

  23. hahaha…quit trying to make it look like i’m building myself up. You know I’m all about the soft sell.

  24. There’s a joke in there but I’m not gonna jump at it. It will take every last bit of my self control but…

    My mama raised a lady.

I wouldn’t want to go too far in public now that I have the site.

    Private is another matter entirely…
