Keys and White find ‘Another Way to Die’
By Craig Kennedy - July 29th, 2008; 2:25 pm

Keys. Alicia Keys.
Billboard says the new Bond theme song will be called Another Way to Die and it will be recorded by Alicia Keys and Jack White, the first duet in Bond soundtrack history.
I like Jack White a lot, but I’m not sure I like him for a Bond theme. I also hate the title because it sounds like an amalgam of the Brosnan years. I guess it’s better than trying to work “quantum of solace” into a song lyric.
Casino Royale composer David Arnold returns for the new film’s score.

Gosh, that really does sound like the Brosnan era.
Could work out, though. The idea of a duet has me intrigued.
Yes it does. I’m stlil not quite buying Jack White though. I like a classy theme and White is more bluesy. That’s fine, but it’s a different direction than I was expecting.
Well, James is probably feeling a little blue in this one.
I love the classy themes, too, but switching gears some may be among the ways in which the filmmakers want to distinguish this Craig series of films.
Craig. Daniel Craig.
I will keep an open mind. I agree it’s good to switch gears, but they should’ve started with the title.
The title, like Casino Royale, does seem to demonstrate a certain fidelity to Ian Fleming… You can almost see the cartoon question marks above people’s heads in the theatre when they see the title at the end of the trailer, though.
As soon as I posted that and ran off, I thought, “Ooh, obviously he’s talking about the title of theme. Yeah. Duh.” I be dense.
Yeah, I could delete both comments if you want to pretend we never had this conversation.
No, no, Craig, let them be, as a monument to my dumbness.
hahha…ok. Could be worse.
In truth, I agree with your unconvinced take on Jack White. And much like you, I enjoy him.
Call me old fashioned but I think all James Bond opening credits sequences should involve 1) a brassy theme sung by ONE woman and 2) naked ladies.
Last time we got Chris Cornell and lots of goofy playing cards flying around. I was unimpressed.
Harvey, what you say makes sense, ahaha.
I agree!
I agree with you Harvey, including your thoughts on the last song. It was my least favorite part of the film.
Play around with the other elements, but some things are sacred.
Awful title. White and Jones could make it work, but i really wanted Winehouse.
What’s funny is, after thinking of the title itself for a couple of days, I don’t think it’s truly horrible–I could actually envision it being the title of a pretty cool, effective song, since it would presumably be about a certain death of spirit–but it’s a rotten shame it sounds so incredibly like a retro trip from Tomorrow Never Dies to Die Another Day. Craig’s right that working “Quantum of Solace” into it would be better.
Looks like they’re going to go the S.P.E.C.T.R.E. route, as Christian said, though, and in terms of the film that’s probably more troubling.
Live and Let Die
Tomorrow Never Dies
Die Another Day
Another Way To Die
I mean, come on…
forgot one christian:
Die-monds Are Forever
haha. There was a site that had James Bond parody posters…a fact which would be 57% more awesome if I could find it. But I spent the last 10 minutes with no luck and now I’ve grown weary.
Most intriguingly, Christian, I’ve always wondered why the word “die” shows up as the titles of a film franchise where we pretty much know 007, um, won’t die. It becomes kind of amusing, since, well, the franchise has proven that it has no intention to ever die. What’s next, The Die is Cast?
I agree with Harvey about those damn playing cards last time, particularly when they ended up having Bond playing poker for goodness sakes.
I can accept the “die” theme as his mission is always life or death, but to come up with another title using the word…especially when you have a fine title in QOS.
James Bond Will Return In:
The Die Who Loved Me
Haha, The Living Dielights.
Booyah!
Don’t forget:
For Your Dies Only
Anything with Jack Whites involvement has to be worth a listen.
Thanks for stopping by Grievous Angel (nice Gram Parsons reference!)
I agree with you, but I’ll be curious to see how he fits in with the Bond style.
So different a partnership that it will be brilliant or a disaster. Should be interesting to find out.
Here’s hoping it’s the former.
