Bernie Mac in Bad Santa
Bernie Mac died today at a Chicago hospital due to complications from pneumonia. He was 50 years old.
Star of his own sitcom The Bernie Mac Show and part of the Ocean’s Eleven ensemble (plus its two sequels), the comedian will be best remembered at LiC for his part in Terry Zwigoff’s 2003 Christmas classic, Bad Santa.
Rest in peace, Gin.

I was just going to send you an email about this. Damn it. Bernie Mac was great. I really like his show, which got knocked all over the schedule by Fox. I thought it had been cancelled multiple times.
Schmucks.
He was great in Bad Santa and the Oceans movies. I also liked him in Get On the Bus. RIP, Bernie.
What a shock, right? I swear I stared at my feed reader when I saw the headline pop up at CNN. I stared for about 10 minutes and then got up and walked around and forgot all about it. Then it hit, and it hit hard. Such a shame, RIP Bernie.
When I was researching actors for my MLK, Jr. biopic post in April, it wasn’t hard to defend Bernie Mac as a legitimate choice. Often comedians are the best actors, and I think he had a lot of potential - Bad Santa is a great example. RIP indeed.
I was shocked when I saw this today. Only 50 years old. :(
RIP, Bernie.
A great talent he was — and a premature exit.
I liked the first two seasons of his show. I, too, thought it had been canceled, which is a shame. He was great in Bad Santa, held his own in the Oceans movies and tore up the stage as a stand-up. We’ve lost several great comedians in the past year, just when we need them most. RIP, Bernie.
When I’d heard he went into the hospital because of pneumonia, I honestly feared the worst. Sad news indeed.
RIP. Quite sad. I had no idea he had been hospitalized recently.
This makes me sad…and he was so young too.
RIP, Bernie.
You’ll be missed.
Damn, that is way too young.
That’s truly sad. RIP.
He was a great comic and comic actor. I always got the sense he had his head on straight, and that he loved life. May he find much to laugh about in heaven or wheresoever he might be.
And, not to trod on Bernie’s space, but this combined with the news that Paul Newman is on his deathbed has me feeling melancholy today.
You, me and everyone else, jenny…
