More on Katrina doc ‘Trouble the Water’

Kim Rivers Roberts and Scott Roberts in Trouble the Water

Back in July you may remember I mentioned having caught up to the Sundance jury prize-winning documentary Trouble the Water, the story of hurricane Katrina told through the eyes of two survivors: Kimberly Rivers Roberts and her husband Scott Roberts. I’ll have a review of the film up sometime before the film’s release next weekend.

Meanwhile, Kim and Scott (and their beautiful new baby Sky) were in LA the last couple of days promoting the film along with filmmakers Carl Deal and Tia Lessin. This afternoon, I sat down with them at their hotel in West Hollywood to chat about the movie. Suffice it to say that interviewing is an art form and it’s one I’m still learning. For now, Charlie Rose doesn’t have anything to worry about from me, but it was a good conversation and longer than I was anticipating since I was squeezed in between CNN and BET.

It’ll take a few days to transcribe the interview, but for now I’ll just say that it was nice to see Kimberly and Scott are exactly the strong-willed survivors they appear to be in the documentary.

Stay tuned for more on Trouble the Water because this is one you’ll want to see. For now, check out the official Trouble the Water website where you can find out more about the film, see the trailer and link to organizations who are still helping New Orleans recover three years later.

Trouble the Water opens in New York and Los Angeles on August 22 with a nationwide release to follow.

  2. Wow, cool. I’m intimated just thinking about trying to sum up my thoughts for a proper review let alone interviewing anyone. Very cool.
