The bar has been set very high and there are a million ways this whole thing could go horribly wrong. I’m most concerned about the 2nd film though. If they’re as slavish to the story as they were with the trilogy, the first Hobbit will probably be fine.

I’ve seen you around on various message boards Rick. Thanks for making your way to LiC.

And I agree that “new” is not what the studio wants at all. They want lightening in a bottle.

In the end, if it’s mostly as good as LotR, I’ll be satisfied.

I’m not sure why they searched so long for a new scriptwriter, either, considering the success they had with the Jackson-Walsh-Boyens team.

And I’m afraid that a “new take” is exactly what they don’t want.

They should just adapt the Silmarillion and change the names to Bilbo and Gandalf.

Er, why wasn’t that the plan from the start? Doesn’t it just make sense?

I concur with your concerns about Del Toro — I’m just glad they steer clear of Raimi. I think Del Toro has a much better shot at the material.

The big question mark is the “bridge” movie anyway. That one is fraught with peril.
