AFI Fest Announces First Group of Titles

All eyes are on the 2008 Toronto International Film Festival, which officially kicks off today, but LA’s own AFI Fest announced the first 15 films of its own lineup yesterday. Several familiar faces from Toronto and Cannes will screen between October 30 and November 9. The list includes Paul Schrader’s Adam Resurrected, Arnaud Desplechin’s A Christmas Tale (Un conte de Noel), Matteo Garrone’s Gomorrah, Kim Jee Woon’s The Good, the Bad, the Weird and Ari Folman’s Waltz with Bashir.

Also making its world premiere will be Danny Ledonne’s Playing Columbine, a documentary about the controversial video game Super Columbine Massacre RPG! implicated in the Dawson College shooting.

Rodrigo Pla’s The Desert Within, Fernando Eimbcke’s Lake Tahoe and Margarito Jimeno’s documentary Gogol Bordello Non-Stop will be making their North American premieres.
