‘Wild Things’ Reset for October ‘09
According to ComingSoon, the Spike Jonze directed adaptation of Maurice Sendak’s Where the Wild Things Are has resurfaced on Warner Bros’ October 2009 Calendar.
Unsubstantiated rumors about the allegedly troubled production have swirled for months like turds in a toilet bowl and the film recently dropped off of WB’s release radar, but no one has gone on record as actually having seen the thing. Whether or not Warners regrets giving a crapload of cash to a unique film stylist like Spike Jonze instead of a boat-steadying middle-of-the-roader like Chris Columbus is anyone’s guess, but until the film is seen, it’s all so much back fence gossip and it means nothing.

Difference is, Spke Jonze can actually direct a movie. I haven’t seen any evidence of that skill from Mr. Columbus.
Hey now…I loved Home Alone and Rent!
Fight! Fight! Fight!
I think Columbus is able to put a movie together, but he doesn’t have much in the way of personal flair.
I think “workmanlike” is the word I’m looking for.
Yep, Mr. Columbus will never be accused of instilling gleeful anticipation in a lover of cinema.
Columbus is so horribly boring in such a low-brow way. To quote Gertrude Stein, there’s no there, there.
The Fincher-Tarsem-Jonze trifecta of music video directors is kind of strange. Is it the VH1-MTV Wave?
The Harry Potter movies gained a slight bit of interest when they stopped letting Columbus direct them.
And I beg to differ with my friend Daniel, I thought “Rent” was a mess. It was obvious that Columbus couldn’t shoot a musical number to save his dear old grandmother, who never did anything to deserve the grief she’s gotten over the years from little Chris.
