Trailer: Changeling

AD’s Ryan Adams points us to Trailer Addict for Clint Eastwood’s Changeling:
I have to say, I’ve been skeptical about this project, but I think I like the trailer. Angelina Jolie takes a lot of crap for being hot and just a little bit kooky in her personal life, but I like her and she looks good in this.
This is the first solid look I’ve had at this picture and I’m sold.

I think Angelina Jolie is a very talented actress. Her kookie personal life has nothing to do with anything. I’ve been in the tank for this one for awhile. :-)
OK, well Soloist put me in a cynical mood and so I’ll admit that the CUT of this trailer made me think Oscar bait but the subject matter actually looks pretty interesting.
Of course, something about Angelina screaming “I want my son back” made me think of Sally Field in the trailer for Not Without My Daughter.
hahah Joel, there’s just no pleasing you today.
I absolutely agree about Angelina Alison, and she’s what grabbed me about this trailer.
It’s natural that the trailer will be put together to push buttons….if the whole film plays on the same level, I might end up agreeing with Joel, but for now I’m on board.
Excellent! Can’t believe it; this Fall is looking so fantastic already. And, is it just me or are trailers (well, most) getting so much better? There’s a bit of art to the exercise — Curious Case, Milk, and now this.
I don’t know, this trailer seems to give just about every damn plot development away. After seeing this (SPOILERS?) there better be some amazing plot twist that isn’t in the trailer, like the kid actually IS the real one and Angelina realizes she was justly put into the crazy house and submits to a proper hosing.
This trailer didn’t sell me. While it may end up being Oscar bait, I remain unconvinced of its quality other than production values and some good performances. Atonement’s trailer played the dramatic heartstrings, too, but I really liked that film’s trailer. I’m gonna wait for the film before deciding.
This trailer does nothing for me.
The cinematography looks very nice, and I think Malkovich will deliver another underrated, overlooked performance.
Dorothy, did you at least succeed in getting tickets for this one? I have the very front row, so maybe I’ll go blind, and won’t have to worry about going to the movies anymore!?!
I like the trailer too, and I want to see the film more than ever, so it did what it was meant to – for me anyway.
I’m convinced. Jolie looks great here and looks to get her second nomination. Lots and lots of great (fingers crossed) films coming out in the next 2 months.
Oh Sam, no I did not. Still, I don’t feel too bad about it since it’ll be coming out soon enough. And I feel a bit better about missing out on “Che” tickets since IFC stepped in earlier this week.
So you’ll be seeing “The Changeling” 3-D style! Hard core devotion there.
Her screaming at the end made me think of Sean Penn screaming “That’s my daughter!” in Mystic River and, dare I say it, I think there were hints of “PADME!” from Revenge of the Sith.
Well Dorothy, I didn’t have much of a choice as the Eastwood tickets were expiring when I got to the window, the same way CHE and THE WRESTLER had disappeared much earlier. Hopefully the front row won’t be literally on top of teh screen. LOL!!! But I think the film opens nationwide within a week of that screening so no biggie.
Hey Niles, thanks for commenting. Sorry it took so long to get your comment approved.
It looks like me, you and Alison are the only ones on board this one. Ah well.
Wow Evan, that’s harsh! I hated that scene in MR, but I liked AJ’s delivery here.
Don’t forget me, Craig! I’m 100% on board.
How could I have overlooked the great Ms. Porker?
Sheez, what a crappy host I’ve turned out to be.
I’m with you on Button and Milk. Especially Milk, though i wasn’t presold on that one as much as Button.
Hopefully a decent Che trailer will be forthcoming.
I’m 100% on board too, just saying ;)
I hope we’re right.
I guess I’m sharing Jeff’s wavelength, because I found the trailer to be excessively detailed in displaying what seems like every plot point, presumably before the final fifteen minutes or so…?
Jolie and Malkovich both look strong, however.
Alexander, long time no see. (well a couple of days anyway :)
I guess I wasn’t focused too much on the big picture of the trailer, just the stylistic details. You (and Jeff) are probably right, though.
Ah, yes, I’ve been kept out of the loop for a few days by the vagaries of the real world, but, I can’t be contained for too long. :)
Just for the record — but who’s counting? — I may not be “on board,” as you say, but at least I’m standing in line at the “will call” window.
From the moment I first heard about this film I was excited and hopeful that it would be handled well and that Jolie could sink her chops into a good character. On the basis of the trailer, though, what I see is the possibility of critical acceptance and Oscarability — but not necessarily the quality and depth I like to see.
But that can change when the film opens and I actually get to see it.
I think I”m approaching it from the exact opposite direction Pierre. My expectations were low, but Jolie’s performance had something I wasn’t expecting.
I hope you’re right, Craig. It’s about time Jolie get a good role and be acknowledge, for a change, because of her talent instead of her personal life.
