Trailer: Fear(s) of the Dark

From France, here’s an omnibus film on a theme of fear animated almost entirely in black and white by six renowned graphic artists and comic illustrators. As is often the case with multi-story films this one is hit and miss, but the segments that work make it worth seeing, particularly for animation fans.

Best of all is Robert McGuire’s difficult-to-describe concluding piece, a sort of creepy haunted house in the middle of nowhere number where the terrors lurking in the omnipresent shadows could be real or imagined. The only problem with it is that it’s so amazing looking, you’re too busy gawking to be scared.

Other artists include Blutch, Charles Burns and Marie Caillou.

  1. This popped up on my release calendar after I caught wind of it last month. Apparently it’s supposed to be surprisingly scary. Wouldn’t take much for me of course, who is still freaked out by the likes of It and Child’s Play.

  2. The trailer makes it out to be scarier than it really is. Creepy and a little unsettling is more accurate I think.

  3. Creepy and unsettling is good enough for me.
