Guillaume Depardieu, Actor: 1971 – 2008

Gérard and Guillaume Depardieu
Sad news arrives from France that Guillaume Depardieu, 37-year-old son of Gérard Depardieu, died suddenly in a Paris hospital of pneumonia contracted while working on a film in Romania
Though they had been estranged in recent years, the father and son worked several times on French television (The Count of Monte Cristo and Les Miserables) and in film (Tous les Matins du Monde).
On his own, Guillaume most recently landed on Living in Cinema’s radar with Jacques Rivette’s The Duchess of Langeais (Ne touchez pas la hache) and with a small part in Serge Bozon’s La France.

I saw this yesterday. So tragic.
I’ve been keeping my nose out of my newsreader so I didn’t even see it until this morning.
I’d only seen him in films recently, but it’s always a little shocking when someone under 40 dies.
Exactly.
This and the news of the death of Alexei Cherepanov at 19 in one day – so shocking and tragic.
Yes, I saw this yesterday as well–very sad news. RIP.
RIP, Alexei Cherepanov as well.
Speaking of hockey, go Sharks!
Guillame Depardieu’s death was very sad (and a great loss to the artistic community) but this estranged son of the great actor Gerard, who was just coming into his own, was stricken with endless and serious medical issues after his motorcycle accident and subsequent amputation in 2003.
I fondly remember his youthful turn in the beautiful film TOUS LES MATINS DU MONDE as well as his fine lead performance in POLA X.
Of course he was the lead opposite Jeanne Baliber in one of 2008’s best films, THE DUTCHESS OF LANGEAIS. a.k.a. DON’T TOUCH THE AXE, where he may have well given his finest performance ever for the great Jacques Rivette.
This is a real tragedy in every sense of the word.
