‘Slumdog’ Awards Heat Grows with BIFA Wins
Slumdog Millionaire, Danny Boyle’s winning story of the impoverished Indian teen who has a chance to take the top prize on a popular television game show, won three prizes of its own on Sunday when it snagged a handful of British Independent Film Awards including best British independent film, best director for Boyle and most promising newcomer for actor Dev Patel.

ah thanks nick.:)
people in town may not have it as cool as those of the coasts in the states but i guess we have it ok.
arrgh the nov 18 screening at the houston angelika i was filled /it was in a smaller room (#3) and we don’t often get free screenings a month in advance/combine that with the buzz on slumdog award chance and it was packed early.
as an angelika manger told me.get here early next time. ha ha… :)
I do not know if it is right that BIFTA not elect as best actress Sally Hawkins, the question is whether this can affect their race to the other prizes
I haven’t been able to get this film out of my head since I saw it. Absolutely wonderful, uplifting, and moving. I’ve been playing the soundtrack constantly since Monday night. I hope it goes far on Oscar night, and that this is a sign of good things to come.
Sofia, I was a little surprised to see Hawkins lose too, especially with the BIFA. Not sure how much of a momentum killer that is. Nevertheless, the early buzz around her seems to have faded some. Thanks for stopping by. Come back soon.
Matthew, I’m having something of the opposite reaction to the movie. Liked it quite a bit at the time, but the experience is rapidly fading. I’m hoping to catch it again in a couple of days and see if it jumps back up again. It was certainaly enjoyable and very likeable, but I guess I was just hoping for a little more oomph…or something.
