The IPA Satellite Nominees
The awards train keeps on rolling with this weekend’s announcement of the nominees for the Satellite Awards from the International Press Academy where Slumdog Millionaire and Milk each received six nods.
Though Slumdog was shut out of the acting categories, it racked up nominees for best drama, director Danny Boyle, adapted screenplay Simon Beaufoy, original score A.R. Rahman, song A.R. Rahman and Gulzar, plus editing Chris Dickens.
Milk meanwhile was nominated for best drama, actor in a drama Sean Penn, supporting actor James Franco, director Gus Van Sant, original screenplay Dustin Lance Black and original score Danny Elfman.
Other notable nominations from LiC’s perspective include best actresses in a drama Anne Hathaway (Rachel Getting Married Married) and Kristin Scott Thomas (I’ve Loved You So Long); best actresses in a comedy or musical Sally Hawkins (Happy-Go-Lucky), Catherine Deneuve (A Christmas Tale) and Kat Dennings (Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist); best actors in a comedy or musical Sam Rockwell (Choke), Michael Cera (Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist), Josh Brolin (W.) and Brendan Gleeson (In Bruges); best supporting actresses Rosemarie DeWitt (Rachel Getting Married), Angelica Huston (Choke), Penelope Cruz (surprisingly for Elegy and not Vicky Cristina Barcelona); best supporting actors James Franco (Milk) and Heath Ledger (The Dark Knight); best comedy or musical Vicky Cristina Barcelona and Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist; and best documentary Man on Wire.

“Eric Roth, Robin Swicord - The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” - Original? Did I not read a short story of the same title written by F. Scott. Fitzgerald just a couple days ago, for the third time?
“Philip Roth - Elegy” - He wrote the screenplay?
No Viola Davis?
There goes the IPA’s credibility if you ask me.
Perhaps Button diverted enough from the original source to qualify. I don’t know. But yeah, these are pretty low level awards as far as I’m concerned though they made solid picks last year:

Checking the site now, it appears that Elegy and Curious Case have been moved to the Adapted Screenplay nomination list. Still have the wrong writer for Elegy, however.
that’s what I get for cutting, pasting and formatting…
