Fred Knittle who survived World War II to gain late-life fame as a member of the Young@Heart Chorus, lost a brief battle with cancer on Thursday. Central to some of the most memorable moments in Stephen Walker’s documentary on the group, the 83-year-old is survived by his wife, 4 children and 12 grandchildren.

On Tuesday, the Library of Congress announced this year’s list of 25 films to be entered into the National Film Registry. According to the LoC website, each year since 1989, “the Librarian of Congress names 25 films to the National Film Registry that are ‘culturally, historically or aesthetically’ significant, to be preserved for all time.
