Trailer: The Hurt Locker

Based on the accounts of journalist Mark Boal, Kathyrn Bigelow’s The Hurt Locker takes a soldier’s eye view of the Iraq War in telling the story of an elite Army Explosive Ordinance Team.

With good reviews coming out of Venice and Toronto and appearances on a few Best Unreleased of 2008 lists, could this finally be the Iraq War drama that finds an audience?

The Hurt Locker features, Jeremy Renner, Anthonie Mackie, Brian Geraghty, Guy Pearce, Ralph Fiennes and David Morse. It does not yet have a release date.

  1. i’m excited about the movie, but the preview doesn’t really seem to say much about it.

  2. I’m going based purely on buzz at this point, and I don’t think even that is unanimous. It’s one to watch out for, but I don’t know that my hopes are necessarily high.

  3. I’m really looking forward to this.

  4. It’s got Ralph Fiennes, so I’ll definitely be seeing this at some point.

  5. My sense is his part is smallish, do you know if that’s true K?

Also, remind me, did you see The Reader?

  6. I don’t know how large his part is, but it doesn’t matter. If he’s involved, I’ll see it, because I’m just that big a loser.

I haven’t seen The Reader yet… I have tentative plans to see it tomorrow.

  7. If you like Ralph, then get thee to a theater, tout de suite!

No one seems to be talking about him in it, it’s not the biggest or flashiest part in the movie, but I thought he was kind of the glue that held the whole thing together. He did a lot with a little.

  8. I’m seeing The Reader later today. I can’t wait!

  9. Woot, lucky k, hope you enjoy. Hope it opens near me soon. I need my Winslet fix.

  10. I’m shocked you didn’t get your fill of Kate with Rev Road!

I liked her in The Reader, but I liked her better in RR.

  11. That was last year, lol, and I am a huge, huge Kate junkie, so. I think I shall dip into her past works this weekend just to lessen my urge.

  12. Eternal Sunshine is kind of my Kate Emergency Kit. When in need, pop it in.

On the other hand, there’s nothing like fresh stuff you haven’t seen.

  13. Ha, Eternal Sunshine is the movie I put on when I’m in That Mood. That’s definitely Kate’s best performance, in my opinion.

  14. You have impeccable taste K, and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

  15. Hm, it looks really good. Ralph Fiennes is in this?! Wow. He was amazing in The Reader (since it’s been brought up).

Also, Titanic is my Kate fix movie, lol. I’m just such a sentimental romantic who loves extremely long movies with pretty music. *blushes*

  16. I must say, it may be a good film, but the trailer did not do much for me at all. The countdown-of-days bit rubs me the wrong way.

And, for another thing, it looks far too familiar.

The trailer seems to suggest it is a remake of Robert Aldrich’s suspenseful Ten Seconds to Hell starring Jack Palance, but the setting has been changed to Iraq, circa now.

  17. I just recycled my usual trailer comment in the Victoria thread, so I won’t repeat it here.

  18. Yes, the trailer is probably a lie like nearly all are. In this case, I hope it is.
