Focus Features firmed up some release dates today and the outlook for 2009 suddenly got a little more interesting.
Jim Jarmusch’s The Limits of Control arrives May 22 while Joel and Ethan Coen’s A Serious Man is set for October 2. Neither made LiC’s 20 to Watch for 2009 because they didn’t yet have release dates. [...]

London based Shorts International, purveyor of fine short films the world over is teaming up with Magnolia Pictures again this year to bring the Oscar-nominated live-action and animated short films to US theaters beginning February 6 with expansions into 60 cities to follow in subsequent weeks.

Best known in the United States for directing 1986’s Jean de Florette and Manon of the Spring, Claude Berri died Monday at the age of 84 of unspecified causes.
The Frenchman’s film career spanned 50 years as an actor, writer, director and producer. He won an Oscar for best short film with Le Poulet in 1965.
