Waters Sill Troubled

Trouble the Water
on the red carpet.
I love how the cameras just can’t help cutting away to Miley friggin’ Cyrus.

Though it lost the Oscar on Sunday night to Man on Wire, filmmakers Carl Deal and Tia Lessin and subjects Kimberly and Scott Roberts can be proud that the world was introduced to their terrific documentary Trouble the Water.

Now, with Mardi Gras kicking off, Carl and Tia would like to remind you that there are still communities in New Orleans and all along the Gulf Coast that haven’t recovered and that the problems run deeper than just the devastation caused by a single hurricane.

The Trouble the Water website has a tool to help you send a letter to Congress asking for action.

Read the LiC review and Part 1 of an interview with Lessin and Deal that never got a Part 2 (long story).

  1. Kind of astounding to me that even after all the heart-wrenching coverage this whole event has garnered over the years since Katrina, most Americans are fairly unaware of how little has actually been rebuilt in New Orleans. It’s really sad to live in a country of such prosperity (regardless of the current economic crisis) where an entire city can be so devastated and yet there’s still so much work left to done after so many promises were made and broken.

  2. And the governor of the state refuses to use the part of the bailout bill that will extend unemployment benefits…
