Trailer: Where the Wild Things Are

Yeah. Screw the haters and the doubters. My inner 12-year-old is alive and well and all over this one (my outer 39-year-old is still a big fan of bourbon and waking up next to naked, frazzle-haired supermodels, but that’s another story).
Anyway, not really at all what I expected, but it completely fits. Check it out for yourself and then tell us what you think. This YouTube version is the third I’ve posted and they keep taking them down so watch it while you can. Check it out morer biggerer at YouTube.

Spike Jonze’s Where the Wild Things Are is set to open October 16, 2009.

  1. I couldn’t make it past Ellen and John Stamos playing pictionary…

  2. Not a big fan of daytime TV myself, though Ellen is the most tolerable.

  3. wait damnit, the link is supposed to go right to the trailer.

    Hold on…

  4. Ok, screw Ellen. TrailerAddict.

  5. Ooooooohhh. Happy.

  6. Huh. Count me as curious but a little thrown off by the style of it (it’s possible this fast-edit trailer and that odd version of the Arcade Fire song just completely lost me). Anyway, looks interesting.

  7. Yeah, not what I expected by I’m with Jennybee.

  8. Dying to see this but don’t care for the Hipster Silverlake feel…

  9. lol…fucking cynics!

I love that there is no attempt to make the creatures look real.

    It’s kind of Krofft-gasmic

  10. Yay!!!

This was one of my favorite books as a kid and it’s one of the first books I bought for my little niece. I’m psyched for this.

  11. I definitely like the practical effects of it all.

  12. I love the naturalistic look, just hate the emo music…

  13. I admit the music doesn’t fit the imagery much at all, but step off my Arcade Fire (heh heh).

  14. I have stated my intense interest in this for a number of reasons the first time it was broached at LIC months back, and all I can say is that I have my fingers crossed.

  15. Agree with Christian that the emo music sucks, but I like what I’m seeing.

  16. Yes! This will kick ass! Nothing else needs to be said.

  17. I wouldn’t worry too much about a song that probably isn’t in the movie anyway. It looks like Jonze has made a children’s film that doesn’t have all its life strangled out of it due to some sort of “reverence” for children or the source material. The movie looks like what kids play about in the yard, if Noah Baumbach shot it with cool monsters. Looking forward to it.

  18. It’s too bad Spike Jonze is dating Michelle Williams, cause after seeing this trailer I want to marry his ass.

  19. Lol, Ivy. Too funny. And I agree.

  20. I can’t wait!

  21. The video isn’t working for me…. :(

  22. They must’ve taken it down. I’ll see if I can find another link.

  23. Color me curious. I liked the use of Arcade Fire. Not sure how they’ll spin this story out into a full-length movie but the tone depicted in the trailer seems in keeping with the source material.
