Golden Trailer Awards like ‘Star Trek’ too

It’s not the trailer that pops into my mind when I think of great trailers of the past year (not sure I can think of one that does), but I have to admit that the Star Trek trailer did its job in making me want to see a movie I was otherwise deeply skeptical about. It’s appropriate then that it took Best in Show and Summer 2009 Blockbuster prizes at the 10th Annual Golden Trailer Awards handed out last night at the DGA in Los Angeles.

Other notable winners include WALL-E for best Animation/Family, Man on Wire for Best Documentary, Frost/Nixon for Best Drama and The Wrestler for Best Independent.

Renamed the Don La Fontaine Award, the prize for Best Voice Over went to Tropic Thunder – Hollywood Legend, the spoof of Hearts of Darkness narrated by Corey Burton.

Judged by a group of “film industry notables,” The Golden Trailer Awards are handed out each year to the fine folks who work so hard convincing you to see upcoming movies in just a few short minutes.  In the case of Star Trek, it worked.
