Antichrist video game: a nightmare version of Myst!

Antichrist: The Videogame

Tipped off by a post on a videogame message board, SlashFilm’s Russ Fischer has done some Internet sleuthing and he’s uncovered details about a videogame adaptation of Lars von Trier’s controversial Antichrist. Yes, that Antichrist.

According to the Danish website Politiken.dk (Google translation), Willem Dafoe provides voiceover for Eden, the first person thriller/adventure game that takes place after the events of von Trier’s film. Described by the programmer as “a bit like a nightmare version of Myst,” Eden prompts the player for his or her own fears and then adjusts utilizing media downloaded from the Internet. In this way, the game is different every time you play it.

Lars von Trier will approve the final design of the game expected to be released for PC next year in conjunction with the Antichrist DVD. This is great news. Now if you have trouble mastering the genital mutilation sequence, you can always hit reset.

  1. Whether or not this movie is good or bad, whether I hate it or love it, I love this concept. Never in a million years would I have expected this news, but it makes perfect sense. Von Trier is the master of shock marketing in the indie/foreign market.

  2. “Now if you have trouble mastering the genital mutilation sequence, you can always hit reset.”

Just like Battleship, only you yell: “You torpedoed my little man in the boat!”

  3. Joel: agreed. It almost sounds like a April Fools hoax…except in Danish.

    Ryan: Haha!!
