Concept Art: Tim Burton’s ‘Alice in Wonderland’

Alice in Wonderland 450

McPaper has a pile of nifty concept art from Tim Burton’s upcoming Alice in Wonderland (March 5, 2010) starring Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway and others.

I like the hallucinatory style. It’s of a piece with Burton’s other work, but it has a refinement that stands on its own.

  1. OK, I was tepid on this one before but count me officially on board. This looks amazing.

  2. Did you hit McPaper and look at some of the other images? All the cool kids are just posting themselves, but I figured a teaser was enough.

Anyway, I agree. After he cast Depp and Carter, I thought he might be spinning his wheels with the same-old-same-old (and I say this as a guy who liked Charlie and the Chocolate Factor, silly Wonka backstory and all), but this is a nifty mix of Burton and Carroll.

Obviously, it’s just concept art, but still. If it’s a clue to the eventual style of the film, you know it’ll at least look great. Now if Burton can actually tell a story…

  3. I like it! I’m with you guys on it.

I’m especially amused by the juxtaposition of the Mad Hatter image with the Dillinger ad right next to it.

  4. Today’s John Dillinger’s Birthday.
    Meryl Streep’s too.
    Emmanuelle Seigner’s.
    & Dan Brown’s (ack!)

Cake and ice cream melting at the Awards Daily birthday gangbang. The Billy Wilder Gateau Noir is all gone though.
