‘Green Zone’ and ‘Wolfman’ land in 2010

For some reason I’m thinking that Paul Greengrass’s Green Zone starring Matt Damon was hoped for in some quarters as a 2009 release. According to a recent Universal press release however, it’s coming March 12, 2010.

On top of that, Wolfman starring starring Bencio Del Toro, Anthony Hopkins and Emily Blunt has been bumped again from November 2009, to February 12th, 2010. The repeated delays and reports of reshoots back in May make one wonder exactly what’s going on with this film and the hints aren’t good.

  1. I thought Green Zone was coming out this year too, but I guess not. As for Wolfman, I’ve been scratching my head over this one since I first heard about it a couple years back and I still don’t get why anyone thought it was a good idea.

  2. It wasn’t more than two days ago I was thinking about Green Zone, wondering where it was and then wondering if, whenever it does come out, its relevance will have passed. I’m not sure if it’s about combat or what (and I’m fine not knowing, Damon + Greengrass = enough info), but the Green Zone has been pretty quiet lately.

Also, mark Wolfman coming out on my birthday now. Is that a Friday? That would be cool. (My birthday on a Friday, not necessarily the Wolfman on my birthday).

  3. I think the Green Zone would benefit from things being quiet in Iraq come March (and let’s all pray they still are quiet over there, for everyone’s sake). I think part of the failure of all these Iraq movies (apart from most of them not being very good) is that people just aren’t really all that interested in “escaping” to a theater to witness the same awful thing they see on the news everyday.

The best and most successful war movies tend to come out long after the conflicts they dramatize have ended.

  4. Hmm, good point, but this is going to come right in that fuzzy area near the “end” of a war. The Hurt Locker I suppose came at a similar time and that didn’t really matter.

  5. I still believe if you make good movies and market them properly, people will tend to show up for them. Call me naive.
