Trailer: The Lovely Bones

“I was 14 years old when I was murdered.”
Carefully scrubbed free of any ET dingleberries, here’s the official trailer for Peter Jackson’s adaptation of Alice Sebold’s best-selling novel The Lovely Bones.
I haven’t read the book, but the film looks….well…lovely and it’ll be nice to see Jackson return to something that doesn’t have orcs and hobbits in it for a while.
The film told from the perspective of a murdered girl stars Saoirse Ronan, Mark Wahlberg, Rachel Weisz, Susan Sarandon, Stanley Tucci and Michael Imperioli opens December 11, 2009.
Update: Stream it via TrailerAddict after the jump.

It’s odd that he didn’t introduce Saoirse Ronan in the opening.
I’m definitely intrigued by the trailer, though.
I’ve read the book, and it’s wonderful. If I was to nitpick, it would be about the casting, which has that “throw a bunch of A-listers and see what sticks” vibe to it. This picture probably would’ve benefitted from a less famous, more surprising cast. I don’t see all of these people as belonging to the same family, or world.
Agreed. The casting of the family’s adults continues to bother me, but maybe they’ll sell it in the performances.
Otherwise, this looks good. It’s a little jarring seeing the literal translation of what Susie’s seeing in the In-Between or Heaven, but there’s no way around that, and it may turn out to be lovely.
Saoirse Ronan looks great.
Quite a nice book. I read the screenplay a while back, thought it was an excellent adaptation overall.
It’s been at least 5 years since I read the book and I don’t remember it being so thriller-y but that might just be my memory of it. This looks interesting but I agree JB that it’s a bit jarring to see such “the literal translation of what Susie’s seeing in the In-Between or Heaven” but I’m guessing that was what drew Jackson to the material so early on.
The casting changed a bit as this project languished in pre-production planning, but the most prominent change was from Ryan Gosling to Mark Wahlberg for the Dad. I actually think Donnie Wahlberg would have been much better in this role, but I hope Markie Mark has it in him to take on the role.
Interesting thoughts on the casting. Being illiterate, I haven’t read the book as I said above, and once the movie was announced that pretty much put the kibosh on my plans to remedy that until I see the movie.
I’m focused on Ronan and the look of the thing and both look good.
