Trailer: Afterschool

IFC picked up this creepy looking number after it played the Un Certain Regard program at Cannes this year. Early trade reviews were middling, but the UK press latched onto it pretty well.

The film is drawing comparisons (some favorable and some not) to Michael Haneke’s Caché and Gus Van Sant’s Elephant.

Directed by newcomer Antonio Campos, Afterschool is a thriller set at a New York prep school where the death of two popular sisters is captured on video. It premieres OnDemand on September 30 and hits theaters in limited release on October 2.

  1. Interesting trailer here!

“The film is drawing comparisons (some favorable and some not) to Michael Haneke’s Caché and Gus Van Sant’s Elephant.”

Well, I LOVE both of these films greatly, so I’m hoping the positive comparisions will be decisive.

  2. Love that trailer, very effective and artful. And yes, it is genuinely creepy.

Glad to hear you love Elephant, Sam. I admired Cache but didn’t quite love it.
