Trailer: A Nightmare on Elm Street
My indifference to this remake of the classic ’80s horror flick A Nightmare on Elm Street is absolute and the trailer does nothing to convince me otherwise. By lifting whole scenes from the original (including the glove emerging from the bathtub between the heroine’s legs – which Craven himself lifted from a similar scene with a snake in 1981’s Deadly Blessing), the filmmakers (including executive producer Michael Bay) aren’t even pretending to be offering you anything new. Of course this comes as no surprise since the production company, Platinum Dunes, has made a name for itself in the last few years with pointless remakes of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Amityville Horror, The Hitcher and Friday the 13th. This is another cynical cash grab trading on name recognition and counting on lazy audiences.
Rejected. Moving on.

I was almost afraid to watch it. Looks like bigger sets, slicker cinematography and lots of slo-mo.
What do you do with a remake like this? If you stray too far from the original, you’ve fucked up a genre classic. If you hew too closely, it’s a pointless rehash.
The worst-of-both-worlds approach is when they make an uninspired copy but then throw in some stupid, random departure just for the hell of it.
The only reason I might consider seeing it is to check out what JEH does with the character. I’ll keep expectations very low and wait for the reviews.
