Trailer 2: Shutter Island
I managed to avoid the first trailer for Martin Scorsese’s Shutter Island and I’m not about to break down and watch this one. I have no idea how it’s different than the first one, but enjoy.
In case you’ve forgotten, the film based on Dennis Lehane’s novel stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo, Ben Kingsley, Michelle Williams, Patricia Clarkson, Max Von Sydow, Emily Mortimer and Jackie Earle Haley.
Originally set for release this month, Shutter Island was recently pushed back to February 19, 2010.

I watched the first trailer and it seemed okay. I’ll probably try to see it in the theatre. The fact that it is getting pushed back to February means it won’t qualify for the Oscar competition (I think) which might be a sign of doubt on the studio’s side in the film quality. And also a DiCaprio free ceremony which is actually fine by me. It’s still Ben Kingsley and Martin Scorsese on the director’s chair so count me in.
My sense about the move taken in part from what other people smarter than me have said is that Shutter Island, though good, just wasn’t an Oscar type movie and the studio has limited resources to campaign for other films they think might have a better shot at winning.
It doesn’t mean Shutter Island is bad.
I skipped the first trailer because I’m pre-sold on Scorsese and I just want to see it without knowing too much about it.
Well, I adopted the whole no-trailer policy after the first was already out so I saw it. Wasn’t bad but just seemed a bit generic.
I hope it will turn out nicely. Probably a happy ending though :) The Academy prefers tragedies for some unknown reason.

That’s the way I feel about it … I’ll go see anything Marty does, and besides, I’m a fan of Lehane’s as well. I’m about half-way through “Shutter Island” now, as a matter of fact.
Good Lawd, the trailer I saw pretty much led you by the hand through the whole story, with a few twists revealed. This shoulda been a sparse, scary teaser, not this overwrought spoiler fest. So I can’t watch that one for fear more secrets are revealed…
SPOILER (KIND OF): The secret of this story is that there isn’t any secret. It is exactly what anyone of any remote horror experience is expecting.
