BS Update: Wright not directing ‘My Fair Lady’ remake

Based purely on the film’s checkered history, I was openly critical of a recent report in the UK press that Joe Wright was going to direct the long-planned remake of My Fair Lady and that Keira Knightley would be his star. I was a little surprised however to find that the story was being taken at face value all over the internet.
I began to think maybe I was wrong, but today the folks at The Playlist found some video of Joe Wright at a London Film Festival red carpet where he flatly denies the rumor. “It’s not happening,” he says. “It’s all a lie.”
He also doesn’t know the status of Ms. Knightley.
Check out the video after the jump.

I guess that guy at the burger joint was wrong about the casting for ‘enry ‘iggins too.
Well, if they have to drag out that useless blatantly sexist old warhorse all over again, then Keira HAS to star. At least get something right.
She’d be perfection.
*sidenote*
Though I do loathe MY FAIR LADY with the passion of a thousand white hot suns, I happen to think PYGMALION (with Leslie Howard and Wendy Hiller) is gloriously awesome.
I guess it’s just a matter of degrees…?
