Happy Halloween: Beyond the Door (1974)

The commercial for this Italian Exorcist knockoff scared me so bad when I was a little kid, watching it today dredges up the feeling and still kind of freaks me out a little bit.

Juliet Mills plays a woman who gets pregnant while cheating on her husband. Naturally, the other man is a satanist and the baby inside her is the antichrist! Much vomiting, swearing and head spinning ensues.

Director Ovidio G. Assonitis would go on to make the Jaws inspired rip-off Tentacles (I Tentacoli), a giant octopus terrorizing swimmers flick starring John Huston, Shelley Winters, Bo Hopkins and Claude Akins with a cameo from Henry Fonda.

  1. I remember hearing about this movie but I never saw it. I don’t even remember seeing the trailer, but I probably did.

Last night I watched TCM’s pyschologically scary picks, including Gaslight and Psycho. I never get tired of Psycho. This morning they showed The Haunting, which is a very effective haunted house story and a solid adaptation of the book The Haunting of Hill House. For the rest of the day they’re showing Vincent Price movies naturally.

    Happy Halloween. :D

  2. The 1999 remake of The Haunting was FAR superior to that creaky old b + w thing.

April Fool! (Hey, I’ve always been bad with dates.)

  3. LOL Frank.

    It’s All Saint’s Day.
