Trailer #2: Brothers
The second trailer for Brothers, Jim Sheridan’s remake of Susanne Bier’s Brødre, is a modest improvement over the first, but it still kind of looks like unbearable melodrama.
Natalie Portman plays a woman who believes her husband was killed in war. She takes up with brother-in-law Jake Gyllenhaal only to find out her husband Tobey Maguire is still alive.
Brothers hits theaters on December 4.

I concur. The original is so highly praised, it disappoints me that this one is looking like a more superficial melodrama. Though maybe that’s unfair. I haven’t seen the original yet. I do really really like Susanne Bier. And I like Jim Sheridan and all the players here. So it’s disappointing that this isn’t looking promising.
I have Bier’s original in my Netflix queue and have plans to move it up and see it before this one comes out. Is the December 4 release limited or wide?
Maybe it’s that I’m getting old, but everything I’ve seen for the BROTHERS remake looks like kids playing dress-up. Not a good sign in my opinion.
But hey, at least these actors should be better than Sheridan’s last leading man, 50 Cent.
I suppose I should watch the original one of these days before the remake hits.
I don’t know. I want this to be kind of great because I like all the talent involved, but it’s just screaming Oscar Bait at me.
