Gotham loves ‘Hurt Locker’
IFP just finished handing out the Gotham Independent Film Awards with Kathryn Bigelow’s The Hurt Locker taking two prizes including Best Feature and Best Ensemble Performance. It wasn’t the best nominee (that honor belongs to A Serious Man), but it’s a fine film and I’m sure this is just the first of many honors it’s going to receive this year.
Last year’s winner was Courtney Hunt’s Frozen River.
I kind of love the Gothams for snubbing both Precious and everyone’s favorite envirotainment doc The Cove by not even nominating them.
Here are the rest of tonight’s winners:
Best Feature
The Hurt Locker – Kathryn Bigelow
Best Documentary
Food, Inc. – Robert Kenner
Best Ensemble Performance
The Hurt Locker – Jeremy Renner, Anthony Mackie, Brian Geraghty, Ralph Fiennes, Guy Pearce, David Morse, Evangeline Lilly
Breakthrough Director
Robert Siegel – Big Fan
Breakthrough Actor
Catalina Saavedra – The Maid
Best Film Not Playing at a Theater Near You
You Wont Miss Me – Ry Russo-Young
