Spielberg kills da wabbit

Following up on previous reports we passed along that Steven Spielberg’s next directing project would be a re-adaptation of Mary Chase’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play Harvey, Variety reports tonight that the director has stepped away from the project.
No official reason was given though Variety suggests it was because Tom Hanks wasn’t interest in the film and that Robert Downey Jr. wasn’t working out.
There’s no word yet on what Spielberg will do instead.
The play of course was first brought to the big screen in 1950 starring Jimmy Stewart as Elwood P. Dowd, a man with an imaginary 6 foot 3 1/2 inch tall rabbit friend named Harvey.
I love Spielberg. I love Harvey. Had no interest in seeing the two together.

Did you Photoshop that? :)
Glad to hear he’s moving on to better projects. I’m sure someone will still do the remake. I vote for Michael Bay, so we can have a giant invisible rabbit crashing through buildings in New York as he searches for the perfect bar. Or Roland Emmerich, so we could see dozens of scenes of vehicles narrowly escaping the behemoth bunny the same way as the scientists search for a eureka-worthy way to save the planet.

I’d like to see Vincent Gallo’s spin on Harvey.
Sure you’re not more interested in seeing Harvey spin on Vincent Gallo? :)
I’ll settle for ChloĆ« Sevigny and her Elastomer Rabbit Habit.
