B.S. Watch: Bourne is not dead

Here’s a new one for the occasionally recurring B.S. Watch feature. Instead of putting the kibosh on the likelihood of a certain film getting made, this time we prop up a film some folks are writing off as dead: Bourne 4.

You may remember the official announcement a few days ago that Paul Greengrass was off the project.

Now this morning following an Invictus press conference, Matt Damon apprently announced he’s not doing another Bourne movie without Greengrass.

Though Damon sounded optimistic that something would happen down the road, a number of outlets seem to be taking these developments at face value and are running with “Bourne is Dead” type headlines.

The thing is, there’s still a very real possibility Greengrass will come back (money talks) and there’s also a chance Damon will return whether Greengrass does or not (see previous parenthetical comment).  However, even without director and star, does anyone really believe Universal (who currently seems to be in need of a popular hit) will let the Bourne franchise die?

Not a chance.

How many of the series’ fans even know Paul Greengrass by name? And if James Bond can changes actors, so can Jason Bourne.

Bourne 4 will happen one day. I’m sure of it. Do I care? Not really, but mark it down.
