I’m just old enough to have outgrown types like Corey Haim before Corey Haim became famous. The only movie of his I’ve seen is The Lost Boys. Still, it’s sad to wake up to discover he died early this morning at age 38 of a suspected accidental drug overdose.
Though I didn’t follow his career, his troubled and now shortened journey through adulthood was hard not to be aware of. I think of people like Haim sometimes when I look at the latest child/teen stars and I wonder which ones will live through it unscathed.

Not a fan, but I remember him as being endearing in LUCAS.
Not shocking but still sad. The guy was very tormented. He was genuinely good in his early films. I remember Ebert (or was it Kael?) really lauding him in the review of “Lucas,” particularly. Sad for his family and loved ones.
Yeah, Ebert loved Lucas.
It’s sad, but it also gives me renewed respect for someone like Drew Barrymore who struggled with child stardom yet lived to tell the tale.
It’s sad but not shocking to me, either. It’s newsworthy, sure, but I’m not sure it warranted the breaking news alert on my iPhone this morning.
I don’t have a tremendous amount of affection for Haim’s work (never saw Lucas and Lost Boys doesn’t showcase him much) but I feel sorry for him and his family. He went from being a teen heart throb to a laughing stock and I’m sure the pain of that fall weighed heavily upon him. Celebrity can be a fickle beast. RIP Mr Haim.
Anyone who paid the slightest attention to the entertainment industry and was aware of Corey Haim’s background knew that this day was a possibility.
Sadly, it’s come.
That poor sweet boy.
RIP.
I am remember COREY HAIM like” LUCAS”…I saw the movie in a flight from Puerto Rico to Chicago(1986).Inmediately…I love him.,after that I am follow his movies.He was very charismatic young man.
I will miss COREY HAIM!
