Here’s a newsflash for you: Joaquin Phoenix is a mountain-top water drop.

I still don’t know if it’s real or not (voting not real, but here’s a quick rundown if you don’t know what you’re looking at), but it’s going to be awesome and it’s going to do it on September 10.

  1. I’ll definitely “relish the journey” back to a cleanshaven, well-groomed Joaquin who isn’t sporting a preposterous beer belly. Let’s hope to God that whether this is true or fake, we get that sooner than later.

  2. Also, I’m betting “Mountain Top Water Drop” is the name of more than one college band this year.

  3. If the YouTube clip of Phoenix rapping was any indication, I’m not looking forward to listening to that. xD

This reminds me of when Daniel Wu formed a boy band with his friends (Terence Yin is a co-founder of RottenTomatoes), and began talking smack about products they were sponsoring. Then a year or two later, Wu came up with the mockumentary Heavenly Kings.

It’s sort of like no matter what you do, you can make a mockumentary and say it was all an elaborate joke.

  4. “Mountain Top Water Drop” playing their new hit single “Double Rainbow.”

  5. haha, funny Joel.

  6. I actually watched the trailer and I just can’t figure out the angle of the story. The voiceover (am I supposed to know who that is?) makes it sound like Phoenix was in a dark place for years or something, all that lowest low/closer to God stuff. Didn’t he get like universally praised for Two Lovers? This whole “transition” happened way too fast.

It’s either a total sham or he truly and inexplicably went off the deep end in a matter of days sometime last spring. My bet is on the former. But then I’m no expert on mental illness, which is what he would have to be suffering from to be under the illusion that he could sell a successful rap album.
