Apple has the trailer for one of LiC’s more anticipated film’s of the year: David O. Russell’s The Fighter starring Mark Wahlberg, Christian Bale and Amy Adams.

The Fighter is based on the true story of boxer Irish Mickey Ward (Wahlberg) whose half-brother Dicky Ecklund was once lightweight champion before a life of crime led him to prison.

As I tweeted earlier today, the original 12/10 wide release scheduled for the film has been changed to a limited release with a 12/17 wide release to follow.

  1. And what did you think of the trailer, Craig? With the cast and director, this one’s anticipated for me, but as pointed out by some on Twitter including Rian Johnson of Brick and Brothers Bloom, I feel like this trailer gives everything away.

What’s more, as I said on Twitter, this trailer–wrong or right–looks like something anyone could have directed, not a unique filmmaker like David O. Russell. I’m still intrigued (partially just by whatever Christian Bale has on his head), but a bit disappointed.

  2. Yes it looks like after a long period of troubled projects, Russell just wants to bag a solid drama that doesn’t make waves and people actually turn out to see.

    Good cast, but kinda bland.

  3. I don’t blame him for wanting that; after the trouble he went through with Nailed (that’s the name of the project, right? I honestly can’t remember offhand), he deserves a big movie. I just wish it didn’t seem like a typical “This movie was made to win Oscars” flick.

  4. I just hope he and the cast bring a little something extra that isn’t evident in the trailer.

  5. Even though I’m still on my first cup of coffee, I can agree that the trailer doesn’t tickle me. As we know, however, that doesn’t necessarily mean doom for the entire film.

I am glad, though, to see Amy Adams cast in a part that seems good for the development of her career. She doesn’t need any more sweetness-and-light roles at this point — unless, of course, she needs quick money.

  6. Well, dang. I can’t decide whether I want to watch this trailer or not if it gives the whole thing away.

  7. Come on Pierre, you’ll always have Enchanted to watch over and over and over again.

    Jennybee. Don’t watch it.
