Yesterday saw the poster for Jane Eyre and now Yahoo has debuted the trailer for the adaptation of Charlotte Brontë classic directed by festival favorite Cary Fukunaga (Sin Nombre) and starring Mia Wasikowska and Michael Fassbender.

Jane Eyre opens March 11, 2011.

  1. Ooh! Ooh! Ooh!

(jumping up and down in my seat)

  2. Jane Eyre is one of the few novels from the era — you can tell many of the authors got paid per word — that I enjoyed in school. The plot is familiar, but Eyre is infinitely more interesting a character than, say, Oliver Twist.

That said, I think Wasikowska is poorly cast here. It’s difficult to imagine her capturing that blend of alienation from authority and concern for propriety/goodness. Wasikowska comes across too docile to be rebellious and headstrong and too American to repress her desires. Then, again she could totally surprise me.

Cheers to the gothic atmosphere and Fassbender, who seems to be a good match for Rochester (as well as a fantastic actor regardless).

  3. I’m a fan of Wasikowska so far so I’m interested to see what she brings. Didn’t like Alice, but that wasn’t her fault.
