I’m swallowed up by the LA Film Festival again today. Got a late start, hit traffic, had to have popcorn and coke for breakfast and haven’t had a moment to grab some wi-fi to write about what I’ve seen so far. I did see Ryan Gosling in Nicolas Winding Refn’s Drive last night which I’ll just say right now was a pretty big disappointment. This afternoon I saw a terrific little documentary coming soon to PBS called Where Soldiers Come From which follows a group of young men from small town Northern Michigan who sign up for the National Guard out of high school and wind up looking for improvised explosive devices in Afghanistan. Powerful stuff without trying to be powerful.

More later. In the mean time, enjoy this trailer for Family Tree starring Dermot Mulroney, Hope Davis, Chi McBride, Keith Carradine and Rachael Leigh Cook. It opens August 26.
